Tim Hetherington Lauréat

Le 8 février 2008, à Amsterdam, le jury du World Press Photo Contest 2008 a récompensé l’image de Tim Hetherington comme la photographie de presse de l’année 2007.

Cette photo, prise le 16 septembre 2007, montre un soldat américain au repos sur un bunker, appelé par un soldat de son peloton récemment tué par des insurgés. Le 2ème bataillon aéroporté de la 503ème infanterie américaine était en train de subir un déploiement dans la vallée de Korengal, à l’est de l’Afghanistan. Cet endroit est réputé pour ses combats ardus. Cette photographie fait partie d’une série d’images ayant reçu le 2ème Prix Général des New Stories. Il avait voyagé en Afghanistan comme exercice pour Vanity Fair.

Au total 80,536 photographies jugées par le jury, 125 pays participants. Forcé de signaler que 80% des participants ont téléchargé leurs images en ligne.

Le jury a distribué les prix dans dix catégories à 59 photographes de 23 nationalités différentes comme : l’Afrique du Sud, l’Allemagne, l’Australie, la Belgique, la Bulgarie, le Canada, la Chine, la Colombie, le Danemark, l’Espagne, les Etats-Unis, la France, la Grande-Bretagne, la Hongrie, l’Israël, l’Italie, le Japon, les Pays-Bas, la Pologne, le Portugal, la Russie, la Suisse, et le Zimbabwé.

Le dimanche 27 avril 2008, lors d’une cérémonie de récompense, à Amsterdam, Tim Hetherington, gagnant du Wolrd Press Photo 2007, recevra son prix : 10.000 euros et un appareil photo.
